Lady Carnarvon’s blog is a way of sharing the stories and heritage of this wonderful place and all the people and animals that live and work here so that you can get to know and love it as much as we all do.
AN EXCLUSIVE COMMUNITY FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIGHCLERE - AND DOWNTON ABBEY
Discover how long people have lived here, learn about the landscape surrounding the Castle, find out about the works of art, unearth the story of the 5th Earl and the Pharaoh Tutankhamun?
It is both a much-loved real home - Highclere Castle - and a much-loved fictional home, Downtown Abbey.
Travel back in time and descend down the old servants’ stairs into the Castle cellars to explore the Egyptian Exhibition. In 1922, Lord Carnarvon, other leading Egyptologists of the day, Egyptian officials and much of the world’s press, gathered outside the unremarkable entrance to the tomb of a minor pharaoh to experience the discovery of the richest Egyptian burial ever found.
In a beautiful and dramatic setting such as Highclere Castle, your wedding day could be a real life experience as glamorous and magical as any depicted on Downton Abbey. Highclere Castle is a perfect setting for the smaller more intimate wedding, whether for just the bridal couple or for a gathering of up to 30 close family and friends.
"Season of mist and mellow fruitfulness" - Whether you visit in Autumn, or another season, Highclere offers spectacular trees and rolling landscapes for every guest, as you arrive through the Park gates. For further information please click the above link.
